Alkaline water and water containing dissolved molecular hydrogen describe different properties. pH is an acid-base measurement quantity; dissolved H₂ is the amount of a gas in water. One number does not determine the other.

pH and dissolved hydrogen are different measurements

pH describes hydrogen-ion activity in a solution. Dissolved H₂ means molecular hydrogen gas in water. The terms measure different properties and should not be treated as synonyms.

How pH and dissolved H₂ are measured

For both figures, method, device, temperature, vessel and timing matter. A number without these details is only partly comparable. It does not establish an effect or a need.

    Technical methods and product categories

The 2024 systematic review describes water containing added molecular hydrogen as a distinct product category. Alkaline solutions and H₂-enrichment methods can be considered separately as technical terms. This does not create a recommendation for either category.

    Limits of product comparisons

One measurement does not answer whether a water format is superior, necessary or suitable for a person. This article does not make a ranking or buying decision.

    Conclusion

pH and dissolved H₂ should be documented separately. Technical terms do not replace a health or product-quality claim.
